Submission Guidelines
The following guidelines govern submissions for the Santa Barbara Ocean Film Festival.
Please read these guidelines carefully and follow all directions for submission.
General guidelines for all films:
Categories of Entry:
There are three main categories of entry for this festival.
Short form -- under 20 minutes total running time.
Long form -- 20 minutes to an hour total running time.
Features -- over one hour total running time.
Within each of the main categories exists genres. The genre qualification helps our
judges to identify the film's content.
Genre headings are:
Conservation / Documentary
Travel
Adrenaline
Family / Animation
All styles of film will be accepted for review. Genres exist solely for the purposes of
identification. If the genres listed do not adequately describe your film, please use the one that most
closely matches your film's content. Please indicate a category and genre on the Submission application based on the preceding information.
Eligibility Requirements:
Employees and board members of The Ocean Channel are prohibited from entering.
Format Requirements:
Please submit a preview copy of your film on DVD with
your completed application form. If accepted, you will be contacted to provide a final
screening copy on one of the accepted formats.
All final exhibition prints must be submitted on one of the following
formats: HDCAM, DigiBeta, BetaSP, DVcam, miniDV.
No other formats will be accepted for screening.
Disclaimer:
The Festival holds no responsibility for lost tapes or films. Preview
tapes are non returnable. Screening films or tapes will not be returned.
Deadline for Submissions:
Regular deadline for submissions is August 31st. Extensions may be granted depending
on specific requests.
Winners will be notified by email of acceptance by
September 25th.
Deadline for final prints of accepted films is October 10th.
